The Disease of Addiction Breaks Hearts and Hurts Families

The need is critical, and there is no greater time than now to support Herren Project’s life-changing work.

One Mother’s Journey to Find Hope & Healing in the Midst of a Family’s Pain and Struggle
Each story is personal. Herren Project has been a vital part of Patti and her son Mark’s story for eight years. Patti came to Herren Project during the years of her son’s struggle with addiction. With our resources and support, Mark found quality care and a life in recovery. Patti began her own recovery journey and found hope and support through our family support groups, educational resources, and, most importantly, our community. Little did she know back in 2014 the power these resources would play in her life. With the encouragement of her family support group members, she joined Team Herren Project and later became a Herren Project Ambassador, actively championing the cause. When her son’s recovery would waiver, she found strength and healing through the community to pull her through the challenging times.

Finding Support
Sadly, Mark’s story didn’t have a happy ending. Like too many families today, Patti lost her beloved son Mark to the disease of addiction in February 2022, a sorrow we share with her as her Herren Project family. Although Mark is no longer here, Patti’s story continues. Herren Project’s online grief support group gave her an immediate place to find comfort as she transitioned from the family group.

Inspiring Others Through Example
Patti never gave up hope, and in her loss, she inspires us still with her grace and gratitude. Today, she shares her story to empower others to join her in the fight. She does not want to see another family share her experience. Patti wants people to know how Herren Project’s programs and services saved her life. And although Mark may not have survived this devastating disease, she knows recovery is possible.

Substance Use Disorder in America
We’re facing an unprecedented drug epidemic in America. Our services and support have proven positive outcomes in addressing the issue and are more important than ever. Our prevention and recovery services are helping to save lives and heal families. Our youth prevention initiatives are building a foundation for the social-emotional development of young people. Together, our goal is to stop the disease of addiction.

Your gift will provide vital resources for families like Patti struggling with a loved one’s addiction.

Herren Project has provided life-saving support to individuals and families living with substance use disorder and brought prevention and wellness programs to schools and communities across the country since 2011.

Herren Project is committed to this important and urgent work. As our fiscal year comes to a close, please consider a donation today to help raise $200,000. All gifts made July 1st - July 31st, 2022, will support Herren Project's Annual Appeal - The Empowerment Appeal. Money raised will fund our general operating expenses as well as support our free treatment, recovery, and prevention programs.

Herren Project’s successful outreach is made possible with the financial support of individuals, families, friends, and corporations who believe in the mission, many of whom have witnessed first-hand the incredible grip the disease of addiction can have on the ones we love. Addiction is a disease that impacts us all.

Your collective support could change a life.
