I Am Raising Funds for Herren Project
Join me and help give the gift of sobriety.
I run to raise awareness for Substance Use Disorder. I hope you'll consider donating to Herren Project so you can help others get sober. Not everyone is as lucky as I have been--most aren't.
Hi there! I'm Kevin—a recovering alcoholic celebrating 12 years of sobriety in January 2025. To honor my journey, I'm running 12 half marathons over the next 12 months. My goal is to raise $12,000 for Herren Project, a national nonprofit providing free resources and support for treatment, recovery, and prevention of substance use disorder. Current Race Count: 2/12
I grew up with privilege—it's actually one of the main reasons I'm passionate about Herren Project's mission. So many parts of my life, including my sobriety, wouldn't have been possible without the resources I had. At 18, I went to college in Baltimore, and my mom left a copy of the Big Book on my shelf. I wanted to get sober, but I was stubborn about doing it alone. For years, I tried without accepting that I was an addict or asking for help. Unsurprisingly, that didn't work. It took ending up in the median of a semi-highway in Maryland at 2am to finally see what my future held if I kept drinking.
So here I am, 12 years sober. The more time passes, the more grateful I am for making that decision, and the more aware I am of my privilege. That's why Herren Project matters so much—because no one should walk this path alone.
No matter your resources, identity, or the life you've lived in addiction—everyone deserves support. I want others to have the privilege of reaching their own sobriety milestones—whether that's a day, a week, a month, a year, or a lifetime. Every single one matters. I run to raise awareness for Herren Project, and I hope you'll consider donating to help others reach their own sobriety anniversaries. Because not everyone has been as fortunate as I have—most haven't.
