Supporting Recovery One Mile at a Time
Raising funds for those impacted by substance use disorder
We are no longer accepting donations on this campaign, but there are other ways for you to support us today!
This year I've decided to add more meaning to my miles by fundraising for a cause close to my heart. In September, I'll be running the Berlin Marathon for The HERREN PROJECT, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing resources and support to those affected by addiction.
One of the first questions I am always asked when someone hears about how much time I spend running is "why?". For a long time, running was something sacred that I only did for myself and my mental health. Over time, running has become something much more significant -- it helps me stay close to my friends, bond with total strangers, travel the world, and push my limits. After running for so long for myself, it is time that I put my passion behind a worthy cause.
My life has been shaped by addiction. I am the child of two alcoholics - one who has celebrated over 35 years of sobriety, and one who I haven't seen in almost 20 years. I am the granddaughter of a man I never got to meet because he passed away from liver cirrhosis before I was born. I have family and friends who have passed away from overdoses - lives that The HERREN PROJECT tries to save every day. The HERREN PROJECT's programs serve people of all ages and backgrounds, from teens struggling with drug use to adults in recovery.
My story is not special or unique - I know many of you have been personally impacted by addiction, too.
I am fortunate to have witnessed the resilience that comes from sobriety, and I am raising funds to help more families find that strength, too. I am partnering with The HERREN PROJECT because they have an intimate understanding of substance use disorder. Started by former NBA player Chris Herren in 2011, The HERREN PROJECT was born from Chris’ own journey through addiction and recovery. Many of the current staff members (counselors and office admin alike) have their own personal stories about how substance use disorders have changed their lives. Through treatment placement assistance, family support groups, recovery scholarships, and more, The HERREN PROJECT aims to eliminate many barriers to treatment.
As someone who has personally experienced the impact of addiction on my family and friends, I am committed to raising funds for this important cause. My goal is to raise $3,000 for The HERREN PROJECT, which will go directly to providing education, treatment navigation, and recovery support services to those struggling with addiction. Together, we can make a difference and help those in need.
If you find yourself touched by this cause and in a position to donate, I hope you’ll consider contributing to my fundraiser as I train for my races this year. I am grateful for your support and your generosity. Thank you!
