My name is Aidan Flannery and for those that don’t know for the last 5 years I’ve been in recovery from an alcohol addiction. Addiction and alcoholic specifically are words that come with a certain stigma attached and I’m hoping by sharing that I can help reduce some of that stigma
In 2017 I spent a month in an addiction treatment center called Aiseiri which helped change my life. I had to accept that I had a problem with alcohol and that with the right help I could get better. Today you might not recognise that I’m in recovery or that I ever suffered with addiction issues, but that in itself is how addiction works, many people are struggling without the outside world having any idea.
The Herren Project is an organization that helps individuals and families deal with addiction, and they are supporting me in running the Dublin Marathon this year. Please check out their website and donate to my fundraiser if you can. Thank You!
